SilkProt
An annotated database of silkworm proteins, with identifiers, molecular classes, domains, motifs and cellular components.
SilkProt is an annotated database of silkworm proteins. The legacy interface allowed searches by accession number, molecular class, post translational modification, cellular component, domain, motif, organism, protein length and molecular weight.
A protein annotation record
The database was built to bring silkworm protein information into a searchable form. Its fields covered identifiers from SPD, GenBank and SwissProt, along with annotation categories that help a researcher move from a protein sequence to its likely role in the organism.
| Field | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Accession number | Search by SPD identifier, GenBank identifier or SwissProt identifier. |
| Molecular class | Find proteins within a broad functional class. |
| Post translational modification | Filter by recorded protein modifications. |
| Cellular component | Locate proteins associated with a cell structure or compartment. |
| Domain name | Search by annotated protein domain. |
| Motif | Search by sequence motif. |
| Organism | Limit records to a source organism. |
| Length of protein | Filter by sequence length. |
| Molecular weight | Filter by weight in kDa. |
Interface note
The original SilkProt form is documented here, but a live search is not included in this static edition. The protein records can also be studied through UniProt and NCBI resources.
The centre also listed a silkworm transcription factor database and a protein interaction resource as part of its database programme. Those records remain described in the database index.
Structural records can be studied through the RCSB Protein Data Bank, while protein families and domains can be explored through InterPro.
